the dwarf pea shrub-- does that grow in new england? where can i find one?
You can certainly grow dwarf pea shrub in New England. Some of the local nurseries may carry it, but if not, you can get it mail-order. Also, something with similar flair and character you could procure would be a species of Genista, the brooms. There is a really neat, low-growing cultivar of Genista pilosa known as 'Goldilocks'. There are also more upright species and forms, all with pea-like flowers, many of them yellow.
we just took a stalk of Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' from a friend's yard in JP, not far from where you used to live. it was amazing! so full of luscious orange blooms! we haven't planted it yet, but we've got the roots in water. it was a pretty shady spot that it was in. will it do well in full sun?
